Our mixture of Butterfly and Bee feed mix is Canadian Sourced. The reason why we choose Canadian sourced seeds is due to our harsh Canadian climate. Living in South Central Ontario we notice an large influx of monarchs and bees in the area between the months of June – August. Monarchs prefer open field areas with a lot of nectar to drink. During this time of the year the wildflower seed mixture has developed flowers, having had enough time to grow and bloom. These are the perfect weeks for the monarchs and other insects passing through to stop and feed. Did you know that monarch butterflies will travel 4000 – 5000 kilometres every fall before reaching their destination in Mexico? In the spring the monarchs will make their journey back north to southern parts of Canada where they enjoy the warm summer climate and plenty of nectar to drink before returning to Mexico again for the following winter. Monarchs have one of the longest migration paths of any known insect! Honey bees are not actually native to Canada, however we do have over 800 species of bees which are native to Canada. Honey bees likely originated in the South and Southeast Asia regions. Bees will naturally try and hibernate within their colony to protect the queen from the extreme cold of winter. In the summer we can enjoy honey from a variety of local farms and sellers thanks to the pollination our seed mixture encourages. Our mixture consists of the following plants: Lavender Hyssop, Rockcress, New England Aster, Beeplant, Lance-Leaved Coreopsis, Plains Coreopsis, Dwarf Cosmos, Chinese Forget-Me-Not, Purple Coneflower, Aspen Daisy, California Poppy, Annual Gaillardia, Globe Gilia, Tidy Tips, Sweet Alyssum, Bergamot, Baby Blue Eyes, Corn Poppy and Ohio Spiderwort. Thanks to this mixture we have a variety of sizes and types of flowers to cover the ground of your next garden.
